A Mother’s Words: ‘Having Autism in Adulthood is Extremely Difficult for Both the Individual and Parent’

December 20, 2016 by Surrey Place Staff

A mother shares how one of our therapists has supported her adult daughter living with autism:

“I feel that my daughter is receiving a tremendous amount of support and guidance from Bharathy (Therapist in the Adult Program at Surrey Place Centre). Having autism in adulthood is extremely difficult for both the individual and parent. Bharathy helps to ‘navigate’ Lydia and myself ‘through the waters.’

Lydia gets positive feedback regarding her various behaviours and guidance that allows her to have strategies within her behavioural framework. Bharathy remains patient and is a constant professional who is always there for my daughter!” – Marilyn G
