“Our IBI experience for our son Matthew can be summed up with the following… what a crazy, emotional, intense, frustrating, sometimes scary yet incredibly amazing rewarding experience! Matthew spent about 21 months in therapy and during that time we watched him blossom and grow in ways we probably didn’t even dream of or imagine.
We entered therapy with Matthew having very few words, we left with him speaking in just about proper sentences, asking questions, making requests, drawing our attention to something.
We entered therapy with a child who was extremely resistant to eating and left with him eating a few various items, but more importantly we left with the skills to get him to try new items.
We entered therapy with a child who wouldn’t hold a pencil or crayon and left with him building upon that skill. I could go on and on about the skills Matthew gained.
3 years ago, we didn’t really think or plan for the future, today we dream of taking trips with him, of creating awesome family memories. Without IBI, I truly don’t think we’d have that confidence or belief. I honestly can’t say what our lives would be like right now without the 21 months of therapy but I can guarantee you we are far better off for having received it.
While we knew going in there were no guarantees that the therapy would work, his team of therapists worked with us to ensure we got the best results, they taught us ways to think about how to approach tasks, they helped us tackle unexpected issues that popped up, they loved and supported him, they dealt with and worked through some of our “parent” anxieties, they simply made us a better family and became an extended part of our family.
IBI therapy worked and simply put, it changed our lives. The only regret we’re left with is the length of time he spent on the wait list (will always wonder how much more progress would have been made if addressed sooner and that the therapy didn’t last longer…how many more gains could he have made? How many of his programmes could have been “completed” and not left “in progress” on his final discharge summary).
IBI therapy has meant the world to us. We are no longer the scared family afraid to dream of the future, not sure how to handle things or how to deal with our kid and we have IBI and TPAS team 5 to thank for that, thank you hardly seems enough and yet it’s all we have. From now until forever, thank you!
Thank you for allowing the opportunity to provide this feedback,
