Parent "in awe of diligent efforts" by Connections, Surrey Place, and School

October 30, 2017 by Surrey Place Staff

We, as a family, feel incredibly lucky when it comes to the tremendous support and therapies we have received via Surrey Place Centre. Since diagnosis, we have greatly benefited from the Infant and Early Childhood Program, Toronto ABA and, most importantly, Toronto Autism Services, formerly TPAS. Our daughter started the IBI program when she was 3 years old and the progress she made was incredible.

Every instructor therapist we ever encountered was kind, patient, skilled, and genuinely devoted to helping my child achieve her potential. The trusted bond that our daughter had with each of her primary therapists, starting with Praveena, then Justine and especially Judy brought joy to the act of learning, and fostered curiosity.

If we had any concerns or questions we had along the way we felt very comfortable bringing them up with Andrea, and then Jasbir and they were addressed immediately and thoroughly. I am also grateful that on days when I was struggling as a parent, I really appreciated the kind words and encouragement too.

The ABLL’s testing that was done with precision and great detail. Meetings to discuss with Lianne, Jasbir and her primary therapist provided everyone with a clear and easy to understand assessment of Ellie’s strengths and challenges so we could plan goals and strategies effectively as well as brag proudly about things she excelled at. These meetings also helped us understand what our next steps were.

Ellie is now 5 years old and her transition to Senior Kindergarten is going really well. Once again I am in awe of the diligent efforts on behalf of the Connections team, Surrey Place Centre and the great staff at Mason Rd. Jr. PS. We have had several planning meetings with the school and felt reassured and supported when Jasbir joined us to give accurate assessment info regarding Ellinor to the school staff. TPAS/Toronto Autism Services actually had our daughter’s teacher join her for a day of IBI so that he might better understand how to address her needs. I look forward to meeting our new Family Support Worker at Aisling Discoveries.

I really do not feel there was anything anyone could have improved on… if there was, I’m pretty sure if I had brought it up, it would’ve been addressed.
thank you so much.

Leslie, Ryan, and Ellinor T.
