We walk alongside caregivers so little ones can learn, grow and meet their potential
When a child has a developmental disability, it’s important to establish nurturing routines as early as we can. By doing so, we can build confidence in your child—and you as a caregiver—which sets everyone up for success.
The Infant and Child Development Program offers home-based programming during your child’s critical early years. You’ll gain practical caregiving skills while supporting your child’s early development.
Support includes:
- 1-to-1 caregiver coaching
- Parent-child groups
- Caregiver training workshops
- Service coordination with other professionals
- Support during transitions to childcare or school
Who we support
The Infant and Child Development Program is for families in Toronto with children who:
- Are 0-6 years old
- Have a suspected or confirmed developmental delay
- Are not attending school full-time
What to expect
When you join the program, you’ll be paired with a team of developmental consultants.
Your team will work with you 1-to-1, building your capacity to support your child’s development.
What can we do to get started while we’re on the waitlist?
We invite most caregivers to begin their program with the First Steps Workshop.
This workshop teaches caregivers how routine-based intervention can promote learning in all areas of a child’s development.
You’ll learn how to set up and adapt your child’s environment to maximize learning, play, and positive behaviour. A follow-up group chat will also be offered for those who have questions or would like more assistance afterwards.
After you inquire online, we will help determine whether the workshop is right for you.
Caregivers are eligible for the Infant and Child Development Program if their child:
- Is 0–6 years old
- Is living in Toronto
- Has a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of a developmental delay
- Is not attending school full-time
Yes, as long as your situation meets the following conditions:
- Children who are under 18 months old and registered full-time or part-time may receive Infant and Child Development Program support until they turn 18 months of age
- Children who are over 18 months old registered part-time (i.e., 15 hours or less) may receive condensed consultation services, including participation in the “First Steps” workshop
- Children who are over 18 months registered full-time (i.e., over 15 hours) may receive one home visit contingent on participation in the “First Steps” workshop
There are three circumstances where families may be excluded from registering:
- Families that receive services from an Infant and Child Development Program provider from another agency, such as Centennial, Mothercraft, and Centre Francophone
- Children who are attending a specialized preschool program, such as Centennial Infant and Child Centre Foundation, Silver Creek Pre-School, or Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital
- Children who are currently attending school full-time
