Family Advisory Council
Meet parents of children with developmental disabilities to discuss, act and inspire change
As family and caregivers of children of all ages who have developmental disabilities and/or complex needs, we know that finding a place to share your experiences can be challenging and isolating. We understand because we’ve been there. At the Family Advisory Council, we make it our mission for your voice to be heard to influence positive change.
The Family Advisory Council is a committee that consists of people like you – caregivers of children and adults living with developmental disabilities and/or complex needs. We share our experiences and build our capacity to best advocate for ourselves, our children and those at Surrey Place. We don’t just discuss ideas and experiences among ourselves; we use our voices to advise, make recommendations and prioritize important matters, to and with Surrey Place so that together, we can make a real change. Some of our goals include:
- To identify priority concerns for Surrey Place to consider
- To express parent perspectives to inform clinical practices
- To inform priority setting for clinical and research projects
- To identify gaps in services and find concrete solutions
- To guide Surrey Place staff on service enhancement
We welcome people of diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to join us on our journey to making the future bright for us all. With your participation, the Council can continue this work in a meaningful way.
If you’re interested in joining the Family Advisory Council, look out for our call for new members in Fall 2021.
