Meet the Parent Chair of our Family Advisory Council

September 17, 2020 by Surrey Place- Staff

Family Advisory Council

“My name is Monica Richardson, and I am the Parent Chair of the Family Advisory Council at Surrey Place. In 2016, I joined a working group to share my personal experience as a mother to a young adult with a developmental disability, and about two years ago, that group became the Family Advisory Council. My son is now 27, so I’ve had a lot of experience navigating a complex and sometimes confusing system to get the services and support our family needs. But that’s why I joined the council. I wanted to share my learnings and experiences with others who are early in their journey. I’ve gained so much from the Council, but the most important aspect has been meeting other extraordinary parents whose commitment and love for their families is inspiring. It means so much for us to work together to bring hope to other parents and caregivers.”

The Family Advisory Council is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2020-2021 year. Click here to find out how to join and share your ideas for change.
