Surrey Place is expanding the Parenting Enhancement Program (PEP) with the generous support of a $665,500 Grow Grant provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation that will directly impact the lives of parents with developmental disabilities and their children facing barriers in the Toronto region.
The Parenting Enhancement Program provides parenting skills training and support to parents with developmental disabilities who have been referred to Surry Place from child welfare agencies, Adult Protective Services, Toronto Public Health and other community agencies.
“Our clinical PEP Therapists work with parents to reduce the risk of child neglect and/or abuse and promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of children. The program aims to improve parental abilities through a multifaceted approach which emphasizes individualized, home-based child care instruction, education in child development, and advocating in support of the family.”
Steven Finlay, Chief Executive Officer of Surrey Place
The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario and the Grow Grant will be spread out over the next 36 months commencing January 14th, 2019 that will meet the increasing demand for services and reach more parents in need of skills training, while helping to address the lengthy waitlists for PEP services.
