When you feel the time is right, explaining your child or youth’s diagnosis of FASD with them can help with self-acceptance. They may be blaming themselves for “not trying hard enough” or “not being good enough”. We know that these thoughts are simply not the truth. They need to understand why they may have certain challenges, and how their own strengths and the support of others can help them lead a full life.
