Friday, June 15, 2018, Toronto –Elly, (age 12), single handedly developed her own bake sale fundraiser – Cookies for Surrey Place – raising $500 for the Surrey Place Centre Charitable Foundation.
This remarkable person was inspired to help make a difference after reading the book Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. “I had a better understanding of how hard even simple things like going to school can be for people with disabilities and how important it is to try and help,” said Elly. “I have also learned about the ways that Surrey Place helps the people who receive services and wanted to find a way to help too.”
We thank Elly for her hard work and commitment to making a difference in the lives of our clients, families and caregivers. A small act of compassion can make a difference and Elly committed to raising the funds because “it felt really good to be able to raise money for the Centre and to think it might help someone even in a small way.”
The fundraiser took place between March 31st to April 14th; her mother, Rachel Greenbaum, was pleasantly surprised when Elly made the fundraising plan and presented the idea to her.
Thank you Elly!
