PRESCHOOL SPEECH AND
Parents can have a positive impact on their young child’s communication capabilities with early speech and language support in our Preschool Speech and Language Program (PSL). Our team of Speech-Language Pathologists and Communicative Disorder Assistants identifies how infants and young children with suspected developmental disabilities understand and express language.
We identify how parents can introduce language learning in their daily routines. Additionally, we offer comprehensive communication assessment, intervention and consultation by working closely with Developmental Consultants and other Infant and Child Development providers.
Service delivery follows the “block cycle” in accordance with Early Abilities guidelines with intervention offered at intervals (every 4-6 months) and learning opportunities that help families implement strategies in the off-block period. Surrey Place is contracted by Early Abilities to deliver preschool speech and language services.
To be eligible for this service, infants (0-6 years) must:
- Have supposed or confirmed diagnosis of intellectual disability
- Live in Toronto
- Not receiving Speech-Language Pathology services from another Early Abilities agency (e.g., George Hull, Macaulay, Lumenus, Strides, Hanen Centre)
- Not attending a specialized nursery school (e.g., Centennial, Silver Creek, Yes I Can, Holland-Bloorview, Play & Learn)
