Sustainability Through Change

Achievements from Autism Behavioural Services
In 2024–2025, our Autism Behavioural Services made meaningful progress in delivering personalized, evidence-based support to children, youth and teens with autism spectrum disorder. Guided by a strong commitment to family input and community needs, we provided over 1,100 group seats and 250 individual service seats throughout the year.
We launched two new programs based on community input: Teen Girls Empowerment and Executive Functioning, addressing critical developmental areas for youth. In addition, a new initiative, Discover Your ABA Journey, was introduced to help families navigate treatment options and choose the most appropriate path for their child or teen.
Every advancement reflects our commitment to adapt, innovate and expand what’s possible for families we serve.
Fueling Possibility Through Community Giving
Addressing Food Insecurity with Our Community Pantry
Food insecurity affects 1 in 4 households in Toronto, with an even greater impact on individuals with disabilities, low-income earners, ODSP recipients, and racialized communities. At Surrey Place, we recognize that access to healthy food is essential to promote the well-being and safety of our community. In response, we launched a Community Pantry in November 2024 at our downtown location.
Open three days a week, the Pantry offers welcoming, low-barrier access to food for clients, caregivers, and staff. The Pantry relies on donations from the community to stay stocked and open, with generous in-kind donations from Mabel’s Bakery, Costco, Farm Boy, and Fiesta Farms. Together, we’re meeting urgent needs with dignity and care.
Gifts That Go Beyond the Holidays
In November 2024, Surrey Place launched its annual holiday giving campaign in support of the Client Needs Fund—a vital resource that helps close funding gaps for individuals and families who depend on our services.
The Client Needs Fund allows us to purchase items that traditional programs don’t always cover, like noise-cancelling headphones to ease sensory sensitivities, tablets for communication and skill-building, mobility devices that enhance access and autonomy, and other adaptive supports that promote independence and inclusion.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we fulfilled over 40 client support requests this year—each tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals navigating complex challenges. Together, we’re removing barriers and creating more possibilities – one donation at a time.
Beyond Our Walls: Expanding Impact Through Partnerships
This year, our Services for Partners and Organizations (SPO) team led a series of innovative, community-focused initiatives that expand Surrey Place’s impact beyond our walls. These efforts were designed to meet individuals where they are, whether in hospitals, remote regions, or underserved communities, we’re delivering more equitable, person-centered care where and when it’s needed most:
- We launched a new Mobile Clinical Team, including a nurse specialist, primary care physician, psychiatrist, dual justice coordinator, and transitional services facilitator. This team supported eight Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients in acute care settings as they await appropriate placements – helping ease system pressures and improve continuity of care.
- Our Blind-Low Vision Early Intervention Program extended its reach to Nunavut, where the team provided in-person consultations for children. The success of this outreach has already sparked strong interest in continuing the initiative into 2025 and beyond.
- In 2025, our Audiology Services will continue to support children through four multidisciplinary screening clinic days, helping children get timely assessments that open doors for early supports and better long-term outcomes.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate how collaboration can sustain our mission and open more possibilities for the communities we serve.
