Participants Needed for Music and Health Autism Research
This research is conducted by the Music and Health Science Research Collaboratory at the University of Toronto. This study aims to discover new information about how auditory information impacts the vestibular system in humans. The vestibular system is responsible for posture and balance. This study will investigate:
- Whether different sounds and no sound conditions impact postural sway
- Whether people’s sensory profile influences their postural sway responses to different sound conditions.
CAN I PARTICIPATE?
You may be eligible to participate if you:
- Are 18-34 years old
- Have good or corrected vision and normal hearing
- Have an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis
What do I have to do?
The study process will take 90-120 minutes. The questionnaires will take 30 minutes to complete, and you can choose to complete these at home or at the lab. Your participation at the lab is one 60-minute visit, if the questionnaires are completed prior. At the lab you will stand on a firm surface on either one leg or two legs with your eyes open or closed for up to 60 seconds while listening to different sounds with headphones on. You will get a 3-minute break between each trial and can take more breaks as needed.
